EKZIP Program Assistant

As the lead settlement services organization for the Kootenay-Boundary, the Columbia Basin Alliance for Literacy (CBAL) provides supports to prepare newcomers to live, work and thrive in our region. The new East Kootenay Zonal Immigration Partnership (EKZIP), led by CBAL, will facilitate the building of an inclusive and resilient region where all newcomers will feel welcomed and supported. We are seeking a motivated program assistant to support the EKZIP and related partnership initiatives.
Position Summary
This position will support the EKZIP Coordinator in delivery of the East Kootenay Zonal Immigration Partnership in Cranbrook, Fernie (Elk Valley), Invermere (Windermere Valley) and Golden as funded under CBAL’s contract with Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada.
EKZIP Assistant Abilities & Attributes
- Ability to work flexible hours from a home office (some evening meetings, events and travel)
- Strong organization, communication and interpersonal skills
- High degree of initiative, adaptability and creativity
- Understanding of newcomer settlement needs and challenges
- Experience planning and organizing events
- Strong computer and administrative skills including using Zoom
- Valid Canadian driver’s license, clean driving record and access to a vehicle
- Canadian Language Benchmarks 7 or above (CELPIP 7, IELTS 6)
- Experience working with immigrants, including people who have a wide range of English language skills will be considered an asset
Job Description
- Conduct research, compile data and prepare materials for meetings & projects
- Conduct research on Local & Zonal Immigration Partnership best practices
- Develop and post social media content
- Assist with marketing, including the development and distribution of posters
- Gather community information relevant to newcomers
- Assist in the planning & coordination of special events
- Source and secure venues and catering for meetings and special events
- Attend and take minutes at all committee meetings
- Participate in a weekly meeting with the EKZIP Coordinator
This position will be based primarily at a home office starting at 10 hours per week and may work into more depending on EKZIP workload and skillset of the successful applicant. Work times are flexible except for scheduled meetings and events. The starting wage is $25 per hour and is based on a 46 week per year contract. All applicants must be able to legally work in Canada for the duration of the contract.
