About the Role 
The Visitor Centre Supervisor role is ideal for someone who enjoys supporting a team, engaging with visitors from around the world, and contributing to a positive and welcoming workplace culture.

The Supervisor works closely with and reports to the Destination Services Manager, supporting the day-to-day operations of the Golden Visitor Centre. You will provide visitor information services, supervise staff, support administrative functions, and contribute to a high standard of visitor experience.

Key Responsibilities

  • Overseeing and delivering high-quality visitor information services.
  • Supporting human resources functions, including supervising, motivating and providing on-the-job training for staff.
  • Communicating internal updates through bulletins and regular staff meetings.
  • Responding to feedback and handling complaints or other situations in the absence of the Destination Services Manager.
  • Gathering information and developing new visitor resources.
  • Promoting Golden and its surrounding area by encouraging diverse activities and experiences that enhance and extend visitor stays.
  • Managing retail and ticket sales, including inventory oversight and sales tracking.
  • Performing administrative tasks, including compiling visitor statistics, preparing reports, and supporting internal coordination.
  • Overseeing building and site readiness, including basic maintenance coordination.
  • Packaging and shipping Tourism Golden marketing collateral pieces to provincial Visitor Centres.
  • Applying sound judgment and problem-solving skills in daily operations.
  • Supporting the implementation of the Annual Visitor Services Plan and ensuring the BC Visitor Centre Network Program criteria and performance targets are met.
  • Supporting Tourism Golden in building resident awareness and support for the value of tourism. 

Required Skills, Attributes, Experience & Qualifications:

  • Post-secondary training, such as a college diploma or degree in tourism or business, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum two (2) years of supervisory experience.
  • Experience in tourism and/or hospitality.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, including cross-cultural communication.
  • Excellent organizational, administrative and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to apply Equity, Diversity, Inclusion, and Accessibility (EDIA) principles in daily work and team interactions.
  • Experience in retail sales operations, including inventory and POS system procedures.
  • Digital proficiency, including MS Office and Google Workspace.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to operate a vehicle as required for the role.
  • Eligibility to work in Canada without employer sponsorship.

Preferred Qualifications (Assets, But Not Required):

  • Knowledge of local attractions, events, and tourism services.
  • Proficiency in additional languages (such as French, German, Chinese or Spanish, etc.).
  • First Aid Certification.
  • Tourism Visitor Information Counsellor (TVIC) Training (to be completed within one month of joining).
  • Additional training in EDIA, Psychological Safety, and Mental Health (to be completed within one month of joining).

Working Conditions 
This position is based on-site and requires in-person work. The role involves alternating between standing and sitting, as well as performing physical tasks as part of daily operations, including moving and handling boxes and materials, with reasonable accommodation available where required. 

As the Visitor Centre operates daily, this position requires availability on weekends, evenings, and statutory holidays, with scheduling based on operational needs while aiming to accommodate staff availability whenever possible.

Position type, hours & remuneration
This is a seasonal position starting in the first week of May 2026. The role may be part-time or full-time, with a minimum of 22.5 hours and up to 37.5 hours per week between May and September. 

Compensation

$23.50/per hour
