Job Description

Accountabilities

  • Oversee operation of lifts to ensure maintenance directives are being adhered to.
  • Ensure lifts are being operated in accordance with Technical Safety BC regulations.
  • Creating and updating training materials (manuals, exams, lift logs, etc.) to ensure they align with Technical Safety BC and are in accordance with Z-98 Code.
  • Coordinate the training program (including marking exams, daily evaluations), while continuously training teams in Standard & Safe Operating Procedures.
  • Conduct mid-season check-ins and end of season performance reviews in a timely fashion.
  • Conduct coaching and educational sessions in the daily morning meetings in a positive and constructive way to ensure this information is understood and adhered to.
  • Work closely with the Employee Experience department to run a successful recruitment program (i.e. posting, interviewing, hiring).
  • Create a positive work environment by making sure people feel engaged, empowered and heard.
  • Manage the progressive discipline process including safety infractions and employee relations issues, ensuring that the required documentation has been completed in a timely manner.
  • Resolve guest conflicts by effectively listening and providing solutions.
  • Ensure appropriate documentation is completed and the necessary departments are informed of all lift incidents.
  • Ensure strong homeowner relations are maintained by being personal, approachable and accommodating.
  • Continuously assess staffing requirements in order to effectively create and communicate schedules in a timely manner.
  • Oversee the timekeeping process ensuring accuracy of all hours and approval of same.
  • Maintain effective inter-departmental communications throughout the resort.
  • Manage parking when required by directing traffic flow in parking lots to ensure the best guest experience possible.
  • Foster an environment that cultivates professional development, high morale and teamwork.
  • Compliance with all safety regulations ensuring a clean and safe working environment with active participation in the occupational health and safety program.
  • Adhere to all environmental policies and programs as required.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience operating aerial and surface lifts.
  • Must possess Train the Trainer certificate and be registered with Technical Safety BC.
  • Must hold a current valid driver’s license.
  • Working knowledge and understanding of Z-98 codes.
  • Must demonstrate excellent public speaking and communication skills.
  • Ability to work in a high stress environment.
  • Intermediate to advanced ski or snowboard ability.
  • Must be an outstanding problem solver and excel in conflict resolution.
  • Must be able and willing to follow rules of conduct and discipline staff who do not adhere to policies, procedures and codes.
  • Experienced in evaluating employee performance and behaviour and counsel when needed.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint.
  • Must be willing and able to work a variable work schedule.

Working Conditions

  • May be exposed to severe weather conditions on resort.
  • Must be physically able to stand, turn, lift up to 30 pounds, and assist adult and children on and off chairlift and/or assist guests with loading equipment (skis and bikes).
